God’s Love

As my wife Michele, and I were traveling the other day, she shared a statement with me that she had heard the day before. She said “God does not love us because we are lovable; He loves us because He is God!” Wow, what a simple truth that should free us from striving to earn His love. This reminded me of the Word that I shared in church two weeks ago concerning His love. I spoke that Father God’s love is full and final. He proved His love for us by sending His one and only righteous, pure, holy Son to die on a cross for us while we were yet sinners! For scripture states: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 ) When we call on the Name of Jesus for salvation, He removes our sinfulness and imparts to us His righteousness! The one question that we must settle deep in our hearts is not ” Does God love me, but, do I love God?” As I was reading scripture this morning I came across this Word written by Paul that supports this thought: For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, (Titus 3:3-6 NKJV) My prayer is that the revelation of His perfect love frees us to love Him in return and ignites in us a heart to serve Him! It would be foolish of us to seek to earn what we already have, His full, final and unfailing love!
